♥ Only stipulation is no smut on this post! I am down for it depending on the character (gonna be a firm no on Jupiter and Alfonse's end though), but I'd prefer to keep it under lock and key on another post.
♥ Shipping prefs! If y'all are down for something shippy, my main stipulations are that Jupiter is F/F only, strong pref for M/M on Alfonse's end, and strong pref for F/F on Camilla's end. Otherwise go nuts.
♥ Otherwise, have fun! I will simply state that these are the only characters I'm willing to bring out for this post, though, just as a fair warning.

waking up

[...You know, it probably isn't comforting that the last thing she remembers is Neptune absolutely going to town on poor Venus, the more Jupiter thinks about it. Even as she wakes up in a plush bed--probably the best bed she's slept in for a while, if she's being perfectly honest. Full offense to the Summer Scouts.

But this isn't where she's supposed to be, and she's pretty sure this isn't heaven. Not like she'd be able to get in there anyway, but Jupiter tentatively opens the door of the apparent dorm room she's in, and looks around at the people around her. This is...okay, this is a lot. This is kind of a lot? Jupiter walks out of her room among the cacophony of people, and--

Whoops, she isn't watching where she's going and bumps into someone! That someone may, in fact, be you. Jupiter's quick to jolt back, a little startled, but she plays it off quickly.]

Ah, sorry. [Always say sorry, it's just polite--] You got any idea what's going on here?

[Her tone's about as casual as ever, but she's definitely a little more than ill at ease.]

motive

[It's at least been a week since this game has started, and on the surface at least, Jupiter seems fine. She's definitely every bit as go-getting as her profile implies; while she definitely hasn't felt a need to take the lead among everyone here, she's the first to offer suggestions, playing it off casually and trying not to take too much credit. Much like the party that was held last weekend; something she'd brought up on a whim, and it seemed to go over well. Jupiter is doing her best to keep everyone calm, and she's always got an ear and a little casual advice, but she's...definitely a little more than high strung.

And nowhere is this more apparent than when their captor calls them down to give them an incentive to kill. It's a simple thing; an envelope with a picture inside. Of the worst possible thing that could happen, because they aren't there to stop it.

Jupiter doesn't even need to open her envelope to know what's inside, and yet, she does anyway. And there's Venus, dead on the ground while Neptune rampages, and it's--

Snap.

Jupiter snaps her bracelet against her wrist, and looks around at the others. The rest of them are probably taking it pretty badly too, right? Once they all separate, she'll be looking out for everyone else; if you happened to be reacting badly to this, well, Jupiter's going to be trying to check in on you. Is this because she's trying to ignore her own problems? Absolutely. Is that the sole reason she's doing this? No, it's because it's a good thing to do. The right thing to do. It's what good people do.

So, where ever you are, you'll be getting a knock on the nearest surface--be it a door or the side of a wall, and--]

Hey. You got a second?

[It's tentative, at least. Casual as ever.]

(not at the) afterparty

[Two people died today.

That's what weighs on Jupiter's mind, a hammered in fact that isn't going to leave. Two people died, because they couldn't stop someone from killing. Because they weren't good enough, she wasn't good enough to try and stop them, even if it reasonably wasn't her fault because there's nothing one can do in these kind of situations, it seems.

And yet, they all voted to send the culprit into the pit, and Jupiter's never felt more sick in her life. Someone's set up an afterparty, and Jupiter would be utterly remiss to not help out a bit. In any normal circumstance, she would.

But right now, as she holes herself up in the library, the last thing she wants to see is people. She's curled in on herself on one of the couches in here; hugging herself like this has always been a comfort. It's the only comfort she has, at this point. But if she happens to see you enter, Jupiter's gaze will fall upon you for only a moment before staring out into space again. It takes a moment, but...]

...You think we're going to hell, for what we did today?

[...That sure is a question. If you've talked to her before, it might not be too much of a surprise, considering what she's said of the Summer Scouts and at least a little bit of casual talk about religion. But...yeah, this is a mess.]

do you know the devil?

[It's been weeks. However many, Jupiter doesn't even know how many anymore; she's long lost track of them. She got dragged into this place just as God told the three of them that the devil was there, that it was certain that he was there among them. To say this iteration of Jupiter has been notably more stressed is an understatement.

But she's somehow managed to persevere. She's managed week after week of this, no matter how hard it's gotten. No matter how much she's wanted to cry, to break something, to do something she'd regret in the morning. Jupiter wasn't a very open person, but she had plenty of people she liked to talk to. Even as their numbers thinned, as people she cared about began dying, she still had plenty to cling to. And at least one of those things was the minor hope that the devil wouldn't come for her.

What a fucking idiot she'd been.

The motive this week was the fact that their 'powers' had been turned back on; Jupiter didn't realize it at first until she could finally work that small radio she had with her again and tune into god's station. He's always at 109.8 FM, after all; reliable, and easy to find. It'd been easy to turn the radio on again, and yet, those damning words left the radio once more.

"It is certain that the devil is coming.
It is certain.
It is absolutely certain the devil is already here."

Jupiter's been distant from the rest of the group. She has to be. If the devil reached out to any of the others, Jupiter would never forgive herself for letting it happen. So she's once again taken the burden all upon herself, and she's shut everyone else out. But even from the ballroom where she's currently holed up, on a goddamn Thursday no less, she's having a much harder time with this than she thought. She doesn't even know why she's here. The Devil probably made her come out here. She could certainly blame him for a lot.

And yet, the room feels suffocating. To anyone who enters, it feels almost humid, and one can probably feel themselves start to sweat. It feels like there are hands grasping in the air, touching one's skin, grasping them, and Jupiter can be heard quietly weeping as the same message drones on and on.

"It is certain that the devil is coming.
It is certain.
It is absolutely certain the devil is already here."]

...I just gotta make it til morning. I just...I just...

[She doesn't hear anyone who might be coming in, but Jupiter knows deep down she's not going to last for the rest of the night. The devil is making sure of it; she just hopes that nobody else gets caught up in this.]

[Ah, maybe that was a bit too much. Jupiter tries to laugh it off a bit, but...it rings more hollow, than anything.]

Yeah. We probably could. Self defense, right? Or we could just blame our captor. I'm totally sure a lot of the blame would be on him. [...] Sorry. That probably isn't the kind of question anyone wants to answer.

In some ways it was easier than the spirits in the forest (detestable, worthless, unwanted child) because he didn't have to cut those people down himself. But they were just as innocent, and he was just as to blame for their ultimate fate.

He'd been avoiding people in the library, but it seems like he's not the only one with that idea.

It takes him a second to jot down a memo in response.]

I don't think there was anything else we could do If we'd voted wrong even more people would have died That should be forgiveable I think

I mean... it's the kind of thing no one could blame you for considering.

If someone's threatening you into doing something, I'm prrrretty sure that's on them, legally. At least in the courts down here.

Yuu... regrets opening that envelope. She knew what was going to be in it before she even opened it, but she wasn't... expecting how bad it was going to be.

The horror was written on her face when the envelopes were distributed, and it didn't take her long to flee to her room. Maybe she should have expected the knock, but it still surprises her, shakes her out of her thoughts. She opens the door, though her pained expression becomes a shaky smile when she sees Jupiter.]

Oh, Jupiter. Hi. Of course. Do you want to come in...?

[Jupiter reads the memo easily, and finds herself nodding. Suga isn't wrong, at any rate. It was them against the culprit--or more damningly, them against the Captain's rules.]

...Yeah. Maybe. I don't know, but...

[Jupiter just kind of closes in on herself a little more.]

It feels just, like, we did something terrible. But all of this, it's just...totally rigged in our captor's favor. [Jupiter pauses after saying that, though.] I don't know. It just feels like we got hit with a bad option, and a worse option, and either way, we screwed up. It sucks, right?

It would be a bad sign if we were OK with it

[Any decent person would be uncomfortable with what they had to do. That's part of the whole point of this 'game'.]

Ahaha. Fair.

[It still sounds a little hollow, but she's at least glad Olive isn't judging her for it. She certainly can't judge her harder than Jupiter's judging herself, anyway, but Jupiter does nod her head at that.]

Yeah, they'd probably put him in jail for a long time. Like, thirty counts of kidnapping has to be a life sentence, right? Or multiple. They do that sometimes, right?

[Jupiter's expression is as easy as ever as Yuu opens the door; Jupiter certainly remembers how fast Yuu fled, but being a bastion of calm is probably better than openly panicking herself. As long as she stuffs it down and never acknowledges it, it's fine. She can do a good thing and help someone else out instead.]

Yeah, sure. If you want. [...] You looked kind of...bad, earlier. Are you gonna be alright?

[Jupiter at least waits until Yuu closes the door before asking that, but neither her tone nor posture is accusatory either way. It's just calm as ever, as if this were a casual conversation.]

[ Olive nods. ]

Probably. It doesn't... I come from kind of a weird place, in terms of people like him staying in prison when they're supposed to, but that's the idea.

[Nice beds aren't exactly uncommon anymore, but there's still something surreal about waking up in comfort, without having to worry about his surroundings any. At least, that's how things are supposed to be, but given that these are very unfamiliar surroundings, it looks like Malice has something different to worry about today. By the time he surveys the room and opens the door, the hallway's already swarming with other equally confused people. Malice stands out from the crowd - he's 6'3" and lanky, with bright purple hair so he's a bit hard to miss.

Or maybe not, given that Jupiter bumps into him. He flinches back reflexively, left arm coming up before he pauses and settles like nothing just happened. He rests his hand on his hip and inclines his head a bit at the apology; an acknowledgement, at least.]

None. I was hoping one of you'd know. I'm guessing you don't remember heading out to a place like this?

[He sounds pretty laid back about the whole thing. Though he speaks quickly, he doesn't seem to be in any hurry to go looking around, though occasionally that bright yellow eye flicks up to scan the crowd, like he can't stand still for five minutes. Malice is wearing a brown cloak over dark pants; both look to be pretty well-worn, but still in good condition.]

Oh, like, yeah. For sure. That'd mean we're as screwed up as our captor.

[Jupiter is a little ill at ease after saying that, though. She definitely wonders how true that'll be in God's eyes, but...]

It just sucks? It just. Sucks, all around. [Mmph.] I don't know. I thought dealing with the Summer Scouts was going to be the worst thing ever, but now...

Wait, wait. Like, ummmm. Just. Breaking out of prison kind of weird?

This is sort of unusual Worse than summer camp

[Suga has never been to summer camp, but he knows a lot about kids being mean.]

[Normally, Yuu would be a lot calmer than that, but these are far from normal circumstances. Even the Overblots she and her friends had already faced hadn't compared.

She's relieved when Jupiter comes in, and closes the door after. She moves across the room to sit on the bed, and gestures for Jupiter to sit if she'd like. There's a desk chair still open, after all.]

I... [She hesitates. It'd be easy to say yes, to just do what she got used to at NRC--but everyone here's been... easier to deal with, somehow. Even with the wilder personalities and the much more present threat of death, that someone's going to give into the motives and someone will die... aside from the motives, Yuu hasn't really felt forced to deal with everyone's problems.

It's a reprieve, almost, and she's not sure how to feel about thinking that about their circumstances.]

I don't know. [Better to be honest, she guesses. She can trust Jupiter.] I've got no intention of acting this week, but our captor sure knows how to hit where it hurts.

[ Olive shrugs. ]

Batman gets them back in. But yeah, that kind of weird. Guess it's hard to build prisons that can hold giant crocodile men or guys made out of clay.

[ Her tone does not sound at all against the crocodile men or the clay dudes. ]

[...How all 5'3'' of Jupiter managed to miss this guy is definitely beyond her. Honestly, he's kind of intimidating looking, but then he speaks up and he's definitely a lot more casual than she thought he'd be? Huh. Maybe she's just used to people sounding intimidating.

Either way, Jupiter shakes her head and shrugs her shoulders.]

Nope. Last thing I remember is waiting for one of my group members to get done in the bathroom...

[...It's a safe statement, because boy she does not wanna get into it. Not that it's obvious from looking at her, because thankfully she can at least fake her chill.]

And, like, we're not really supposed to be going anywhere else? So uh. This is pretty bad, actually. [Jupiter rubs the back of her head.] Why would someone want to drag us to a place like this, anyway?

Ahaha. Yeah, for sure. I almost wanna go back to singing about Jesus and dealing with the Devil now. [...] Never thought I'd be saying that.

[At least then Venus would be okay, but...mmph.]

[Admittedly, he's not a Christian, but he doesn't have reason to doubt her that the devil is a real and tangible threat where she's from.]

[Jupiter nods at that, at least. There's no reason to suspect anyone of acting. And hey, who knows, maybe they can prevent people from acting too; there has to be a way to do that. But Jupiter really hopes it won't be necessary.]

I know. It's okay. I know you won't. I really just hope nobody else will.

[They're quick assurances, if nothing else. Jupiter's mastered the art of at least trying to keep people cool and calm, even if it doesn't always work.]

...Is it someone you care about getting hurt?

[Let's start there.]

[...Hey Olive? What the hell is your world? Like Jupiter is trying not to look kind of. Openly flabberghasted at that but that sounds like something out of a cartoon, and--

Okay, no. No she's not gonna think about it. Jupiter forces her look to just...ease into something a little awkward, but still an attempt at a grin. Or something. Maybe she's just internally screaming.]

...Yeah, that sounds like it'd be like. Really hard to do. Can't imagine just what kind of stuff they have to do to make it so they can't break out.

[Jupiter, thankfully, does not sound against them either. But still...]

That Batman must be a real piece of work, yeah?

[And she does not mean that in a good way. You sound like you've got a grudge sis.]

[Hoo boy, Jupiter doesn't doubt that. It takes two to deal with the devil on a good day, Jupiter can't imagine dealing with that and spirits...]

Yeah. It's pretty bad. If it makes you feel any better? I don't think I could deal with vengeful spirits like that. They pretty much just...stay in heaven or hell? Where I come from, anyway.

[Jupiter does start to uncurl herself a bit, stretching her arms and legs just a bit.]

Not that we'll deal with them here. [Beat.] Hopefully, anyway.
